Just like any other family in the rich history of this game. Even those fams who are so called 'against' and claimed to be free of it had plenty of people throughout several versions who were scripting (and quite often had their password exposed as well).

Last versions I played (well sort of) were the 2,7 ones. When they came up with the lackeys I had an account and now. I know jackshit about current alliances, who has beef with who and so on, the lackeys do the work. My point is that I have no clue about what happened in the past few years.
But one recurring thing is that people tend to have a weak memory. I read about people who got gangbanged that they blame the gangbangers for gangbanging them. But the very same people were involved in gangbangs when I was still playing.
When you shoot its ok to gangbang, when you get shot the attackers are a bunch of cowardish shitholes. That seems to be the trend nowadays. Every sense for nuance is thrown out of the window.
Point being, people blame others for what they have done themselves, on multiple occasions throughout the history of this game.

And that community is largely based around the work that volunteers have done to keep this game running, often behind the scenes. Werther you like them or not, a lot of players sooner or later ran into an issue that a volunteer fixed for them. And those who operate the game need to put a certain amount of trust into those volunteers (i.e. allow them to give them tools to do stuff).
I honestly can't see how you can blame those who operate this game for someone who is abusing the trust he was given. It's EXACTLY the same as you giving a capo back in the day certain responsibilities in your family, and after a dispute he steals all the money from his roulette, hitlists a random top and suicides on another guy. Excuses are made, compensation money is paid if you are a somewhat respected family and the deal is done. And that is exactly what omerta did: sorry for the fuck up of someone we gave responsibility, we will try to sort it out to the best of our abilities. Which is perfectly acceptable imo.

Really if they would say: we guarantee, no matter what happens, that we wont reset com until dec 2013 (for the sake of the example), many people would rerank up again, which is made trivial with the lackeys. And the game would benefit a lot of it.
