Since 13:00 CET suddenly the loggerbot stopped working. Which means we can't provide anyone with statistics anymore. We did some research and found out more people got the same problems.
- edo-nieuws - site for .nl news/stats
- d-bot - .nl stats/bot
also got the same problems.
Not only the loggerpage is blocked; we can't access any pages on Omerta. This is the reason why the user profiles are also broken at this moment.
So we went to #help to get some more information, you can read the complete log below.
Devs / Newbs from #help ofcourse try to put the problem at us, fact is, we didn't changed a thing, nor did d-bot and edo-nieuws and suddenly it stopped working.
Most strange/funnny thing is.. out big (admin)friend Trace with his TraBot site has no problems what so ever, since he's allowed to have a loggerbot ingame, and other loggerbots will be akilled. It seems, however, that any data he retrieves using the same page the rest of use is also corrupted, indicating that he is also blocked from this page.
Any attempts to ask the admins in all seriousness what exactly is the problem with our bots and how we can fix those have been simply ignored.
I'm already retired for ages due the attitude and the unfairness of the majority of the admins. I only report news and provide the players with statistics, but if this continues.. Rix and myself will retire from this all.

Everything works again now as it should, but the question remains: the blocking of bots could be the result of an update of the server software, but why did the sysops not mention this to us but instead told us that it was because our bots needed to be fixed? And even so, how did those useless bits of random data sneak in, which is an easy way to break the consistency of a script?

The logger works again. Thanks Dherder for his help with this.
The following changes were needed to make the logger work again:
- Make the script look human. As different people suggested, certain headers were needed to tell the page it was a normal person looking at the page specifically designed for bots (oh, the irony!). Luckily, using those headers, the page could easily be lied to.
- Filter out unneeded chunks of random data which break up the page. On the normal page everything looks fine, but when the page is downloaded using a script random bits of small data were added for an unknown reason to break everything up, resulting in major errors. If anyone else reads this with the intention to get help, the following regex can be used to filter out those chunks of useless data: ^\w{2,4}$ Afterwards everything needs to be joined again by removing all the line breaks.

would depend on what matters help-desk-members have been informed about what has been changed and experimented... perhaps the change made was a temporary fix, to find the hole in the wall... then again am not a specialist in ict by far so I can't judge what they used it for or why they took the course of action they did... to state that they did it per se as an attack versus some websites isn't quite fair imo... and to blame Trabot for being 'adminfriendly' is a bridge too far as well... as you know quite well that Trace does get his stats from another source... thus can't be affected by the measures taken in this case... if this is done on purpose or not is not very clear so hard to prove and not worthy of starting another flame vs crew over... on personal level I have had my arguments with Brando before and I doubt we'll ever see eye-to-eye on any of the latest evolutions... this doesn't mean however that I just consider everything that's being done as a direct assault on anyone ...
