article
Since the first bullets were shot from the first big war this round, the streets haven't exactly been safe and quiet for many of the families. Many Gangsters keep dying, several families keep falling and many goodbyes were shouted to loved ones.

On this grim sunday night, we see yet more action unfolding on two different sides, but occuring at the same time. If these events have any link, I know not!

Aeterna+ and Lusa find their tommies under their blankets and are out to do some damage on Avaratia+

There comes the counter!
Bafra and Gambino take Aeterna head on.
Renocenti took up arms against Bafra.
Montechiaro and Nazdrovia countered at Gambino.

Outlawz counters back at Lusa.
Colosseum joins the arena and fires on Avaritia
Marazzino counters at Montechiaro

It's not as much difference as I thought it would be. What changed between 3.2 and 3.3, then 3.4? That looks drastic.

Also, 4.62 is left out. Is that because the logger was down for so long?

I would like to see some stats on 2.0 - 3.0 also. To me, those are the golden days of Omerta. It's unfortunate that OB was not keeping track that long ago.

You failed to obtain respect for being an older player by using slander to fictionize your time in this game.
How could you not know OB was not apart of the versions before 3.2 or so?
I smell bullshit, do you own a small family at the end of a dying version? Is that the kind of player you are?
I'd prefer to read Anonymous posts these days.

OBN itself weren't created before 3.2. Before that fingon.be was giving news and famstats but the hoster decided he didn't want to do it anymore so more or less everything from the 5-6 years it was up got lost...only the articles itself was salvaged. Famstats, comments and such were lost.

Seems I counted brugs from 4.6.1 and 4.6.2 for what's displayed as 4.6.1 in the graphs. That explains why the numbers are a bit off. I'll fix it later today.

So I got curious and used the logger data we have from old versions (back to 3.2) to check how average family size and such has changed over time. Here are the results:

Image

All accounts that were created within the last 7 days of a version were excluded (those should be reset fun accounts, there's no other way to separate them).
Note: numbers are a bit off because this is not the most accurate way to exclude reset fun. Still thinking about other options.

For the family stats, I only counted families that had at least 5 Brug+ accounts in their family throughout the whole version (else the data set would get too noisy).

Can't guarantee the numbers are correct for all versions since I didn't join OBN till 4.6 or so, but I didn't notice any obvious problems at least.

If Families did not join together at the start of a version like 3 fams merge, this game would still be good it would be like 70-100 families still, u only have to go back to like version 4.1 when there was 70 fams , then if u had 5/6 bloods it didnt really matter, but now there is 30 fams per version, if u have 5/6 bloods u got good chance of staying alive the whole version, bring back old school....

The current playerbase doesn't support having 70-100 families around...Unless you want 40 fams with 2-3 brugs each around.

Just bring back old school omerta then you will see it will less pact/bloods more fams, more fun in wars, more people will re-rank instead of waste time whining when they loose theire lackys account its always the same story version by version..
oh please, anyone who actually states this shows they have no idea of what is actually going on. The reason playerbase is declining is because it is a fucking textbased mafiagame, thats not what today's youth wants. And most oldskool players are grown up ''adults'' by now. the ''gameplay'' itself is at it's best i've ever seen. There just isn't people to support it.

Version 4.1 was like a year ago, and there was 70 families, look it up, and Redspeert i guess your fam is a merge fam, ofc game is decline coz of cheaters and gameplay not keeping up with other games, but we all know game is played on irc, so doesnt matter too much on gameplay... eventually we be down to 10 fams with 40 brugs each (except colossal 100 brugs after another couple merge)

Its 580 days since 4.1 so closer to 2 years than 1.
Your logic is flawed my friend...you claim there should be more fams, but meanwhile you also refuse to see that the game has dwindeled. Fams this version weren't bigger than in 4.1 (Going trough the war articles of 4.1 you see big fams loosing between 30 and 50 brugs in big wars...Hell, if you go another year back you'll see fams loose 50-80 brugs in wars...something even merged fams this version can only hope to get so many brugs).

You claim merged fams are one of the problems this game faces atm, but how come then that merged fams this version got the same size as normal big fams 1 year 7 months back? Could it be because the game got far less players now than then? And why does it have fewer players one might ask...Browser games like this was the big thing back in the early to mid 2000's, now not so much. You can hardly find any game like omerta around that have survived this long. Another thing you have to take into account is that the new recruiting to this game just aint there, the backbone of this game is the players who have played this between 12 and 5 years, and people tend to get tired of games that doesn't change...you know, it gets boring.

The game had some pretty shitty and rather small versions in the late 2.X versions (mainly 2.8a and 2.9). 3.0 changed the game and alot of people came back to playing omerta, but since then there haven't really been much changes (only lackeys that also fucked the game since people doesn't even have to be active now to reach brug).

In a free market a merchandice that doesn't evolve will die, just like this game is dying.

So no, my friend, merged fams is not the cause of the shitty state this game has, its a mere consequence of the dwindeling playerbase. If we had as many players now as 2 years ago, fams wouldn't have to merge to become big.

part of the problem too is that it is not marketed very well. Most players find it by word of mouth. More importantly, new players test the game out all of the time, but it is a fairly tough game to learn and master unless you get advice/help from other players.

@Johnx true but dont forget admins are total asses now days with no respect for the players anymore and because of that more and more quit too special now they start killing whole fams for cheating without giving ppl a fair chance to proof they didn't do it (and yes some really didn't do any wrong)

second part is that dc's are kinda expensive and like you said its only a textbased game for the same money you can play much better games can buy dc's from obay but that costs lots of ing money nowdays

And as if there were no pacts in "oldschool" omerta. There were even bloodships between pacts if you take todays standards in consideration.
People on here called Lusa/Aeterna/Siberia a pact, while in 2.1 you had Medicci/Cupola/Cupido with Cupola alone having more members than lus/aet/sib combined. On top of that the MCC "pact" was blooded to another "pact" called Lucchese/Squad/Odio. That are only two examples, there are more to be found when you check the history.

Families merge due to the shrinking playerbase. So if you want to stay important you either merge at some point or end up becoming a parody of yourself.
