It is a big trend on OBN lately! Flaming!
To keep the quality of the comments higher we came up with the following idea: People who are logged in can like/dislike posts. When a certain post recieves 10 dislikes, it will be automaticly deleted. What do you guys and girls think about this?

This is a terrible idea. The best discussions are the result of statements that cause disagreement. The criteria to have a post removed shouldnt be 10 votes, it should be something with the ratio of votes...
As in, minimum of 10 votes must've been cast, and if greater than 80% of the votes are dislikes, then the post gets deleted.
Alternatively you could improve everything by adding points to the mix. Everyone wants more points, and better posts will earn more points. People wont want to lose points as it will damage their cyber ego and as such less stupid shit gets said.

Registered account should be necessary to post. It is not a solution to stop flames but it would stop some of them at least, people wouldn't be bothered by registering fake nicks i hope
Anonymous (18:05:36 - 08-06)
It will be badly abused.
People will open proxy accounts just to have post they don't like deleted and it will be the end of free expression of opinions. Perhaps it could be like Youtube where a comment that received too many negative votes could be semi-visible and people who'd like to view it would have to click a "Show" button.
Also 3 or so positive votes should immune a post as it would be illogical to have a post that has 50 positive and 10 negative votes deleted. I don't think flamers/spammers would bother positive voting their posts to immunize them.

Auto deleting downvoted comments will cause forum pvp: people will ask friends to remove good comments that reveal truth or place them in a bad spotlight. I like what wowhead.com does: if a post gets downvoted it collapses, but you still have the option by clicking it to make it visible and read what the idiot poster had to say.
For example: http://www.wowhead.com/item=1728#comments
If you scroll down a bit you can see posts just containing the poster name & date, since they received too many dislikes. By simply clicking it you get to read the post.
The big advantage is that people get to read the whole story rather than have to guess what the deleted post was about.

I think this can be abused to remove comments you don't like, its just to get your friends to vote them down. Also some people, who aren't much liked by others (Achille, panna, dark, yama etc ) will most likley get voted out right away.
And whats wrong with a little bit of flame on a boring day :<

Thats basically what I was going to suggest.
If the post has 10 dislikes AND more dislikes then likes, then just hide the post (but still make it viewable if someone wants). In addition, if it gets X amount of dislikes, or a certain percentage of dislikes over likes, then a Mod gets notified to look at the possibility of deleting it.

So if i log in under my name and say yalta sux they'll shoot me ?

If i dont like a family i shoot em.
If the current family where i'm in sux i'll leave em.
If ur affraid for getting killed ur better of in sims.
Now plz. Someone be offended by this and shoot me =D

This's a news site based on a game, why take flaming seriously here? It's the only thing fun about this site actualy cuz gives anyone the oportunity to say what really thinks without the fear of getting punished ingame. Very simple :)

It would make it too easy to get posts from people you don't like removed. Perhaps posts with more than 10 dislikes should just be reported to admins, so they can decide what to do?
