The Omerta crew has announced a detailed explanation about the lackeys, the new feature which has to bring back scripting. Will this new feature make the creators of Atremo and Swiffer loose some money? The crew sure seems to hope so, but what do you guys think of this new feature? Read the announcement below and open up the discussion!

source
statements
As an old junk pusher told me, "Watch whose money you pick up."

- William Seward Burroughs

There's been a lot of anticipation of the new feature lackeys. In fact seldom has there been a more eagerly awaited modification to how Omerta can be played.

We have engaged in a lot of discussion during the last three months or so since we began to realise that we need something very compelling to take on the scripts.

Lackey
a : footman 2, servant b : someone who does menial tasks or runs errands for another

Presenting the lackeys
Spats
Spats does crimes. He learns from you and repeats his learning on the streets of the city of your choice.
Noodles
Noodles is a car-thief. Gone in 60 seconds. Even a milk float. He once took a Packard with the couple making love in the back, still.
O'Rourke
O'Rourke knows all about the booze trade and will follow your rules to do the most profitable booze runs available.
Freekowtski
Freekowtski is a seasoned narcotics smuggler and dealer. Whether it's a lid of weed or a fist full of downs, he's your 'man' cellophane buttons down his back.
Keaton
You can ask Keaton to follow one of your other Lackeys. He's a whizz at getting people out of jail, from saw blades in cakes to trucks full of explosive.
Marconi
Marconi is a message boy. He stops at nothing to make sure you know what's going on and will call you while you are sleeping, if needs be.
Sluggs
Sluggs buys bullets, polishes them and packs them in neat little boxes. He like's 'em shiny and sharp.

These are outlines we are working to. I have heard some players suggest that if they don't Heist we will still script, but we plan to bring in some changes to all group crimes to make these more difficult (dare we say impossible?) to script.

At the same time we will raise the profitability of group crimes, making them more important than they are now. Not offering them via Lackeys is deliberate and aimed at further favouring manual players, whether they choose to hire Lackeys or not.

Hiring
Hiring will cost credits per action and these will be purchasable using DCs and by filling in online offers – so that players who cannot afford to buy DCs (or don't wish to do so) will not have to pay for the service.

How much will it cost?
Not sure yet but it will be a lot cheaper than scripts. Or free, by filling in surveys, etc. We may tweak heists so that you can win Lackey credits.

Will they earn me RP at the same rate as scripts?
Yes. Or better (O'Rourke and Freekowtski can be headed to different towns at the same time)

SMS features?
That's what Marconi does.

We know that some players will decry this as being giving in to scripts – but we are confident that a few months down the line that scripts will be much less of a problem. Our devs time will be free for implementing more features to help manual players be stronger and to thwart scripting and sharing.

Above all we will listen to players and we will improve Lackeys where necessary, staying ahead of scripts in price and functionality.

At least that's the idea.

Are we doing it for the money?
Sure we are – partly. It pisses us off to lose a great guy, friend and colleague of vast experience like Drunkengamer (Kaze) – because we cannot afford to match the offer he got from another company. (a pretty straight software house). It especially pisses us off to read that Atremo earned over €40k just via PayPal last year. We have to declare taxes. I bet he doesn't. Grr.
At least we are not parasites, though. :)

Is it finished yet?
Nope. Working flat out. Looking good but too early to say if we will make it for next week or not. Hope so. Soon as possible if not.

Final word?
Yes.
I wish we did not have to do it at all. I wish there were no scripts. There are. I wish we could 'catch all scripts'. But we cannot.
We catch some of the scripts all of the time, all of the scripts some of the time, but not all of the scripts all of the time, Mr Smith.

So we hope that we will win you current scripters back and that you will consider using Lackeys as being far more attractive (safe and cheap) than the current scripts. We'll make honest villains of you yet.

Hope you like the idea. Will respond as best as we can to questions tomorrow!

what he's saying is that in both cases it is YOU(the player) who should play it not have some program to do it for you...he's right ,where's the point in that, the only purpose a game has is to be enjoyed by being played not having something else play it for you
i enjoy having others work for me :>

is that an rpg and a welfare stamp on it?

Why lackeys, whats the point of playing an internet game when something is doing the workload for you...

Self esteem?

Do you play call of duty black ops with a robot doing it for you?

Weird....

what 1 thing have to do with the other?
since ever the mafia family members had servants, for a multiplicity of jobs, so nothing strange in this

you're missing the point here,he's not talking about one game being a mafia game and the other a shooter/war game

Puankje at 13:23:38 on 26/02:
This is not an action against cheating, but rather a realization from the Omerta Crew, that they have a wonderful unexplored market within their borders. Its a pure marketing decision.

They saw what profit the script owners made, and thought, that's an unusual amount of money that's been made of *our* game, so basically that money belongs to us. Therefore they decided to follow the footsteps of the scriptmakers, because Omerta have a comparative advantage, since they basically got monopoly.

Yet i only expect a war of prices, because in order to maintain the profit, the scripts will become cheaper, since its the only way to lure people back using scripts instead of Lackeys. You have too keep in mind, that its not like the money from the scripts are a life source, so i would think, that the script owners would be more likely to charge less for credits.

They should implement codes for everything again, all the time.

+1

Codes back will lower the amount of people who scripts. 5000 credits can make you like chief if you only do crimes and carnicks, while codes are off, and the rest of the time only do b/n. You can make shitload of dupes who's only ranking when codes are off.

Bring codes back and it will be more expensive to script, and the amount of scripted accounts will be lower as well.

So will the amount of users playing Omerta.

Or do you think those people who are scripting now will manually rank up a account WITH these weird and annoying codes?

I would guess that about 80% of the people script because it's either completely free when they have no codes, or at the least really cheap. 5000 credits (the smallest amount you can buy at once I think) will take you very far if you don't have codes for half the day.

Wouldn't remove all scripts ofcourse. But the people that used to pay for scripts will continue paying for them. And the people that don't want to pay will [hopefully] get off the bad track again. It'd be at least a small decrease in the amount of cheaters (also the amount of lowranked scripted dupes that are purely ranked on no-codes). Better than nothing, right?

At least its an idea to fight against the scripts. But non-donatezors will still being able to use normal scripts.
I dont know how much we have to pay to use the legal version.
But i prefer to see something else against cheating. Dont know what, but they came up with that.
Dont know what this all will do with the player database with those lackeys.
